Should there be more religion on television?

The BBC is being accused of reducing and marginalising its television coverage of religious and ethical issues. Are enough religious programmes broadcast?

Some members of the Church of England's Synod believe that, despite long-running programmes such as BBC1's Songs of Praise, there has been a reduction in the scope of broadcasting about religion.

The BBC insists that its commitment to religion and ethics broadcasting is "unequivocal", and that religious broadcasting has increased in recent years, to an annual total of 168 hours.

Should the BBC broadcast more religious programmes? Should religion have a larger platform in the media? Do you watch religious programmes? What form should religious broadcasts take?

What I Think

Do I want to see more encouragement of masochistic behaviour on TV? No.

It is things like this that stop me from watching TV, I watch everything using video streaming services such as iPlayer, etc. just so I can selectively silence the sick propaganda.

The negatively focused doctrines of christian, islamic, jewish, sikh, and many more, need to be eradicated from daily programming. It is time people started being honest about their masochistic desires and stopped hiding them behind religion.

Who really knows with these people? Believing in one thing with no evidence or logical reasoning only makes the individual more susceptible to do it again in other areas of their life without realising.

Responsibility to the responsible

I see all these crimes in the news where the blame is being chucked around blindly and think to myself that it is about time people started placing responsibility on the criminal rather than on the books they read, the music they listened to, the video games they played, or the upbringing they had, etc.

What needs to be realised is that no matter what books, music and video games people utilize, their own actions are their own responsibility.

They were the ones who decided to utilize it.

This applies whether they took influence from the aformentioned things or not because, to put it plainly, it was them that decided to act on it and if they were stupid enough not to think things through properly and consider the possible consequences then they deserve punishment for that alone anyway, along with whatever punishment is decided for the consequence of their actions.

Responsibility to the responsible.

Not the shit that they chose to read/write/watch/whatever and to act upon without considering the consequence of.

Religion 'linked to happy life'

I found this article on the BBC News website and figured I should present my opinion on it for some reason. Quotes from the article are in bold followed by my response to them underneath.

A belief in God could lead to a more contented life, research suggests.

Hang on... I thought it said Religion was possibly linked to a happy life in the title, nothing about god. This starts the article off on a very bad note as it makes it seem as if the writer has jumped to the conclusion that religion is belief in god or a god when there are many religions that involve no god or gods at all.

Religious people are better able to cope with shocks such as losing a job or divorce, claims the study presented to a Royal Economic Society conference.

Thats probably right in a lot of cases, but similar, greater, affects can be achieved by practicing belief in yourself. Why kid yourself into believing you have an invisible father figure that you must love and fear and regulate yourself by? Practice self-belief and self-control, don't be an nutcase.

Data from thousands of Europeans revealed higher levels of "life satisfaction" in believers.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather be happy genuinely and because of succeeding in things in my life than because of belief in an uncertain, and likely fabricated, entity.

Professor Clark said: "We originally started the research to work out why some European countries had more generous unemployment benefits than others, but our analysis suggested that religious people suffered less psychological harm from unemployment than the non-religious. "They had higher levels of life satisfaction".

Thats because they kid themselves along that a false being is there for them to fall back on, if they believed in themselves instead then the same result could be achieved.

Greetings vistors, I took it upon myself to post an entry as I haven't posted anything since my first post on 10th February which, to be honest was totally random rubbish, well you can't blame a guy for being happy about finding the girl of his dreams can you? Well you will be pleased to hear that everything positive that existed has inverted itself since then and as a result of a demented and seriously screwed up series of events you will be extremely pleased to hear that I have transformed into one seriously f**ked up crazy psychopathic maniacal sadistic self-hating "loner-loser". Failure now appears to be the only open pathway to me and it seems as though I am destined to become one of those people who everyone had so much hope and belief for in earlier times only to forge myself into the total opposite of their expectations and send all of their well-intentioned wishfulness and hopefulness into an endless abyss of anally-concieved hell and to a land where the eternal stench of burning dark caverns of sh*t, lit by a flame that shines brighter than the infinite happiness-filled shores of heaven, is all that remains as a symbolic influence to its inhuman unnatural inhabitants for they know no love or joy or any other positive emotional force or feeling, no hope is felt among or within them, and much like them, I have no hope within me either, all that remains left is negativity, its uncertain path unknown to me and others who have not yet completely followed it and or been absorbed by it. Proverbial and fictional as the afformentioned locations may be they each serve the purpose of portraying my thoughts and feelings at this moment.
